Enjoy an unforgettable experience in one of Ecuador’s most iconic landscapes. This full-day tour takes you to the breathtaking Quilotoa Lagoon, a turquoise crater lake located in the Ecuadorian Andes at an elevation of 3,914 meters above sea level (12,841 feet). During the tour, you’ll admire incredible mountain views, learn about the rich local culture, and have the option to hike or ride a horse to the edge of the crater.

Equipment: It is recommended to bring waterproof clothing, hiking boots, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, water, and snacks.
Acclimatization:It is important to acclimatize to the altitude before starting the ascent. It is recommended to spend at least one day in Quito (2800 meters above sea level / 9186 feet) before starting the hike.
Physical condition:The ascent to Quilotoa crater is a demanding activity that requires good physical condition.

Itinerary

7:30 AM - 8:00 AM: Departure from the city of Quito in a shared vehicle. (Pickup from over 50 hotels in the Quito tourist area).

11:00 AM: During the three-hour journey to Quilotoa Lagoon, we will make several stops to appreciate the charms of the region.

Kichwa Andina Community: Experience genuine cultural immersion, learn about their traditions and culture. Support sustainable community tourism in Ecuador.

Tigua Gallery at the "Cóndor Huasi" Cultural Center: A space where traditional Tigua crafts, made from spondylus shells, are exhibited and sold.

Toachi River Canyon Viewpoint: A panoramic point from which you can admire the impressive view of the Toachi River canyon.

11:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Continue the journey to Zumbahua, observing along the way the colorful rural landscapes: indigenous crops, flocks of sheep and llamas, typical adobe and straw houses, and the majestic presence of Cotopaxi Volcano.

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: Arrival at Quilotoa Lagoon, located at 3,800 meters (12,467 feet).

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM: Hike to the edge of Quilotoa Lagoon, where you can take a kayak ride or simply enjoy the stunning scenery.

2:00 PM - 3:00 PM: Ascend to the rim of the lagoon. You can do this on foot or on horseback (additional cost of $10 USD).

3:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Lunch time. Not included in the price.

4:30 PM: From this time on, we will start our way back to Quito.

5:00 PM - 6:00 PM: Drop-off at your hotel in Quito.
