“Carihuairazo” is an extinct volcano in Ecuador located 10 km. away from the snowy Chimborazo.
On the route, you can see several snow-capped mountains, volcanoes, and lakes. In this place live a great variety of fauna species such as vicuñas, alpacas, paramo foxes, among others. The walk to the frozen lagoon takes approximately 3 hours.

Equipment: It is recommended to bring waterproof clothing, hiking boots, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, water, and snacks.
Acclimatization:It is important to acclimatize to the altitude before starting the ascent. It is recommended to spend at least one day in Baños de Agua Santa (1820 meters above sea level / 5971 feet) before starting the hike.
Physical condition:The ascent to Carihuairazo volcano is a demanding activity that requires good physical condition.

8:30 AM: Arrival at the hiking starting point.
10:00 AM: Visit to the lakes and photo taking.
12:00 PM: Lunch at the lakes area.
1:00 PM: Visit to the frozen lagoon (4600 masl / 15,091 ft).
2:00 PM: Return to the starting point.

4:00 PM: Return to the city of Baños.
