Cotopaxi, Full-Day Tour from Quito

Join an exciting full-day excursion to discover the wonders of Ecuador’s most famous national park. This park is home to the Cotopaxi volcano, one of the world’s tallest active volcanoes. On this guided tour, you’ll see incredible landscapes, discover the region’s rich vegetation and wildlife, and hike to the José Rivas Refuge. This refuge is located at 4,864 meters above sea level. Equipment: It is recommended to bring waterproof clothing, hiking boots, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, water, and snacks.
Acclimatization:It is important to acclimatize to the altitude before starting the ascent. It is recommended to spend at least one day in Quito (2800 meters above sea level / 9186 feet) before starting the hike.
Physical condition:The ascent to Cotopaxi volcano is a demanding activity that requires good physical condition.

Itinerary

7:30 AM - 8:00 AM: Departure from the city of Quito in a shared vehicle. (Pickup from over 50 hotels in the Quito tourist area).

10:00 AM: Arrival at the first station "Control Caspi," located at 3,200 meters. (10,498 feet).

10:30 AM: Continue by vehicle to the "Mariscal Sucre" Interpretation Center, located at 3,800 meters. (12,467 feet). Visit the center for 30 minutes to learn about the flora, fauna, and history of the Cotopaxi Volcano.

11:00 AM: Visit and tour the Limpiopungo Lagoon, located to the northwest of Cotopaxi Volcano, at 3,800 meters. (12,467 feet).

11:45 AM: Travel by vehicle to the parking area located at 4,500 meters. (14,763 feet).

12:00 PM: Begin the hike to the José Rivas Refuge, the only refuge on Cotopaxi, situated at 4,800 meters. (15,748 feet). The ascent takes approximately 1 hour.

1:00 PM: Arrival at the José Rivas Refuge.

1:30 PM: Weather permitting, continue the hike to the volcano's glaciers.

2:00 PM: Descend from the volcano to the parking area, taking approximately 1 hour.

3:00 PM: Lunch. Not included in the price.

3:30 PM: From this time on, we will start our way back to Quito. 

6:30 PM: Drop-off at your hotel in Quito.
