Stop saving destinations on Instagram and start visiting them
How many times have you saved an incredible landscape on Instagram, thinking, “Someday I’m going to go there”? Between Reels, photos, and recommendations, our social media feeds are full of destinations we dream of visiting. Often, they end up tucked away in a folder we never open again.
Travel doesn’t have to be just a “someday” thing. Ecuador is full of places that look like Instagram photos, but the experience is so much better when you’re actually there—feeling the mountain air, listening to a waterfall, or hiking a trail surrounded by nature.
From Saving Posts to Creating Memories
Instagram has become a window to the world. We see places in a photo, like a landscape in a Reel, and save lots of posts to look at “when we have time.”
The problem is that we can spend months or even years accumulating saved destinations without visiting any of them.
A photo can show you what a place looks like. However, it can’t fully convey what it feels like to be there.
It’s not the same to see a waterfall on a screen. Hearing the water fall is different. Saving a photo of a mountain isn’t the same as waking up in front of it. And it’s definitely not the same to watch an adventure on a Reel as it is to experience it yourself.
Ecuador is full of places to put down your phone and look around
You don’t have to go very far to have incredible experiences. Ecuador offers many different landscapes and activities within fairly short distances.
Quilotoa
When a photo doesn’t do the landscape justice, you’ve probably already seen hundreds of photos of Quilotoa Lake on social media. Its turquoise color and the large crater surrounding it make it look unreal.
But standing in front of the lake is a whole different experience. The landscape changes depending on the light, the weather, or the time of day. So, every visit offers something different.

Baños de Agua Santa
Baños de Agua Santa is another one of those places you see all the time on social media. It has waterfalls, mountains, swings, lookout points, and adventure activities. That’s why almost every spot here is worth a photo.
But if you only look at it on Instagram, you’re missing out on the best part.
You can hike the Waterfall Trail. You can also go zip-lining, rafting, or simply enjoy the scenery surrounding the town.
The difference between seeing it and experiencing it lies in the experience itself.

The Ecuadorian Amazon
There are places that don’t fit on a screen—it’s hard to capture the Ecuadorian Amazon in a single photo.
The sounds of the jungle, the rivers, the vegetation, the animals, and the interactions with local communities create a feeling that no post can fully convey.
It’s one of those places where you’ll probably take fewer photos than you expected. You’ll be too busy enjoying the moment.
Not everything has to become content
It’s also okay to travel without constantly thinking about the next photo.
It’s okay to put your phone away for a moment. You can walk without searching for the perfect shot and just take in your surroundings.
Because in the end, the best memories of a trip aren’t always the photos you posted. Sometimes they’re an unexpected conversation, a view that left you speechless, an adventure that scared you, or that moment when you thought, “I’m so glad I finally came.”
Your saved folder can wait a little longer
The next time you’re scrolling through Instagram and a destination you love pops up, instead of just saving it, ask yourself:
Why not go?
You don’t have to visit twenty countries or wait for the perfect vacation. Sometimes, a short getaway is enough to discover a new place, break out of your routine, and come back with stories to share.
Check your saved posts. Pick that destination you’ve been eyeing for months. Start turning screenshots into memories.
Because traveling begins when you stop saying “someday” and start saying “let’s go.”
