Itinerary
- 6:30 AM: Departure from the city of Baños de Agua Santa in a private vehicle.
- 9:00 AM: Arrival at the first station, Caspi Control, located at 3,200 masl (10,498 ft).
- 10:00 AM: Continuation by vehicle to the “Mariscal Sucre” Interpretation Center, located at 3,800 masl (12,467 ft). Visit the center for 30 minutes to learn about the flora, fauna and history of the Cotopaxi volcano.
- 11:45 AM: Travel by vehicle to the parking lot, located at 4,500 masl (14,763 ft).
- 12:00 PM: Start of the hike to the José Rivas Refuge, the only refuge in Cotopaxi, located at 4,800 masl (15,748 ft). The ascent takes approximately 1 hour.
- 1:00 PM: Arrival at José Rivas Refuge.
- 1:30 PM: In favorable weather conditions, you can continue the hike to the glaciers of the volcano.
- 2:00 PM: Descent from the volcano to the parking lot, with an approximate duration of 1 hour.
- 5:00 PM: Destination Quito.
